Data loss can be fatal for any company, whether it is a server failure or a local backup that gets accidentally deleted. Modern businesses are all about Data and it is important they retain and preserve the same in ways where the chances of a data catastrophe is almost zero. This blog gives an overview of common data loss causes in business and it is often times more than just failure to backup.
Hardware Failure
It is important to understand the lifespan of your hardware, especially storage discs (HDDs and SSDs). While SSDs are more reliable, HDDs are more likely to incur damages when they reach a lifespan of 3 years. Ensure your aging drives are backed up to new ones to avoid long processes of minimal/no data recovery.
Wrong Command Inputs
Typing the wrong command or pressing the wrong button can cause a data catastrophe often times than usual. While it's hard to hedge against technical data loss causes, having a highly skilled system administrator comes a long way in protecting data.
Pirated Softwares
If you are in the business of data, it is a quintessence to ensure that all your softwares are licensed and free from any bugs that might cause malware and overwrite/corrupt the data.
Single Recovery
It is important to have at least three backups of data, with at least one cloud backup. Single databases are dangerous and highly volatile.
